Another former Rangers player struggles after leaving Ibrox.
The latest update on Borna Barisic, with the ex-Rangers left-back seemingly set to leave Trabzonspor, highlights yet another case of former Rangers players struggling after departing Ibrox.
The Croatian has hardly featured in Turkey, following his move to southern Europe alongside Rangers teammate John Lundstram. Unfortunately, his time there has been as unsuccessful as Ryan Kent’s.
The ironic twist is that Eren Elmalı, the player who secured his place ahead of Barisic, is also ahead of Barisic’s supposed successor, Ridvan Yilmaz, in the national team. Elmalı is effectively the top choice for both club and country, leaving both Barisic and Yilmaz behind.
As for John Lundstram, despite early criticism and a slow start, he’s been getting more minutes lately, although the team still struggles overall. He’s starting to silence the doubters and find his form.
Barisic?
Another former Rangers player who hasn’t thrived after leaving Govan. Reports from Turkish media suggest his agent was recently called in by Trabzonspor’s management to discuss a possible mutual consent termination.
Could it have gone better for the Croatian?
Once a regular for his national team, Barisic has seen his place fade due to a wealth of stronger options, including City star Gvardiol, who has claimed the left side of defense, and Borna Sosa, among others.
Barisic’s career seems to be in decline, and he’s now likely searching for his next club.
It’s safe to say he’s probably not someone any Rangers fan would want to see return.
