Rangers Source Confirms Tavernier’s Wage Amid Sale Rumors
The wages of Rangers defenders James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have effectively been confirmed, with Heart and Hand revealing the potential savings for the club should they decide to sell the pair.
Amid ongoing speculation about James Tavernier’s potential move to Turkey, either to Trabzonspor or to former manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Besiktas, alongside Connor Goldson’s reported transfer to Cyprus’ Aris Limassol, the well-known fan account confirmed that Rangers would save approximately £75,000 per week if both moves go through.
Connor Goldson’s contract, signed in 2022, saw his wages rise to around £38,000 per week, placing him among the highest earners at Rangers, and at one point, arguably the club’s top-paid player.
With this, Tavernier’s wage is also confirmed at an impressive £37,000 per week. Having signed multiple extensions over the years, this figure is notably higher than the previously believed estimate of £30,000.
Tavernier ranks among the top earners at Rangers, with only Danilo (reportedly on £40,000) and Goldson earning more. It’s likely Jack Butland is in a similar bracket as well.
This highlights the strain Rangers’ wage bill places on the club’s finances. While we’re not concerned with what other clubs are doing, it’s worth noting that Celtic’s wage bill is reportedly £5M less than Rangers’, which speaks volumes. Celtic operate with far more financial efficiency, with just three players earning £20,000 or more a week, compared to Rangers’ 12, including players like Roofe, Borna, and Lundstram who have since left. Rangers still have at least nine players on similar wages.
Rangers are massively overpaying for the return we’re getting.
£75,000 a week for Goldson and Tavernier?
It’s just unbelievable.
