Packet is an infrastructure provider that sells bare metal servers. They recently launched [OpenStack](https://www.openstack.org/) support which means that you can deploy your own private cloud infrastructure using Packet. This post is intended as a walkthrough for installing Kubernetes on Packet. For those unfamiliar with Kubernetes it is an open source container orchestration tool originally developed at Google. It provides features like scheduling containers onto nodes based on available resources, auto-scaling groups of containers based on load, and rolling out updates across clusters. I'll be installing Kubernetes v1.6 onto Packet bare metal servers using [Kubespray](https://github.com/kubernetes-incubator/kubespray). This guide should work on Packet bare metal servers running Ubuntu Xenial. ## Step-by-step instructions ### Prerequisites First you need an account at [Packet](https://www.packet.net). You'll also need [Ansible](https://www.ansible.com/) installed locally. ### Provisioning machines The first step is provisioning machines using Packet. We'll start by creating three master nodes which will form our control plane. We'll also create five worker nodes that we can schedule containers onto.
