Usyk v Fury rematch

If Fury wins in December, he will avenge the first loss of his 36-fight career. On the other hand, if Usyk loses, he will experience his first defeat, ending his perfect 22-fight record.

The rematch between Tyson Fury and Alexander Usik will take place on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is officially scheduled for December 21, 2024, during Riyadh Season in Saudi Arabia. This announcement was made by Turki Alalshikh, the chair of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.

The first bout, which Usyk won by split decision, was also held in Saudi Arabia earlier this month. This victory made Usyk the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. A rematch clause had been included in the Fury-Usyk contract, ensuring a second encounter between the two fighters.

If Fury wins the rematch, he will avenge the first loss of his 36-fight career, whereas a victory for Usyk would maintain his undefeated record of 22 wins.

Turki Alalshikh expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming fight on social media, stating, “The world will watch another historical fight again. Our commitment to boxing fans continues. We hope you enjoy it.”

Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, mentioned that Fury was disappointed but philosophical about the loss. He confirmed that both fighters are eager for the rematch, which promises to be an even more significant event than their first encounter. Warren described the initial fight as a “fabulous fight” between “two absolute gladiators” and anticipates an even bigger spectacle in the rematch.

Tremendous kamikaze

Tyson Fury appeared to be in control of the bout at the midway point when he faced Oleksandr Usyk earlier this month. However, Usyk mounted a stunning comeback, turning the tide in the ninth round. The Ukrainian fighter landed several significant punches, nearly knocking out Fury. The so-called Gypsy King managed to stay on his feet, seemingly using the ropes to avoid a knockdown.

It Was an All-Out War

Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, expressed confidence that Fury can make the necessary adjustments to avenge his first career defeat in the rematch against Usyk. Warren believes Fury has the capability and self-belief to turn things around.

“There was a point in the fight, I think at the end of the seventh round, when he caught Usyk with a couple of really good uppercuts and he was struggling a bit,” Warren noted. “But Usyk went back to the corner, found a second wind, and came out and caught Tyson with a really good shot on the nose. It seemed to trouble Tyson a bit and took his momentum away, especially leading to what happened in the ninth.”

Warren described the match as a fight of two halves, highlighting that both fighters endured an absolute war that took a lot out of them. He emphasized the importance of the adjustments both fighters will need to make, and how it will be interesting to see who the previous fight impacted the most when the rematch happens.
